Sol Still On Top
Sol Kerzner, South Africa’s
king of resort and casino development, this week has said
“We’re making right now. We are definitely profitable.”
This follows on reports that his hotel group’s occupancy
rates had fallen from 80% to 67%.
Kerzner has recently put
his new projects on hold due to the global economic recession.
These projects included a multi billion dollar resort in
Las Vegas. The Sun King made his fortune with Sun City in
South African and Paradise Island in the Bahamas. In 2008,
he opened that Atlantis resort in Dubai, which is estimated
to have cost R15 billion to build.
Kerzner described his company
as well financed and without debt problems. Kerzner was
in Morocco to disc the Mazagan site, which will be the country’s
biggest casino boasting over 400 slot machines and 50 gaming
tables together with a 500 key hotel.
