Lotto Price Increase
Angers Punters
In a first for the national
lottery since it was launched nine years ago, Lotto fanatics
will be paying an extra R1 a line from the 26th March 2009.
Lotto spokesperson, Thembi Tulwana, tried to allay punters’
concerns by pointing out that the winning pot would be larger
but players from across the country have expressed their
disappointment and anger at what they see as an unnecessary
price increase.
Many said that the recession
made it difficult to carry on playing and with the price
increase, they may not be able to continue with their weekly
fix. Others have said they will continue to play but will
set a limit to the amounts they use. Consumer unions commented
that the increase was ‘disturbing’ as the Lottery
Board was not suffering from losses."
